"The deposed WWE Light Heavyweight Champion title has one of the shortest WWE stories. It was introduced in late 1997 in a tournament that would crown the first Light Heavyweight Champion in history. In the final, Taka Michinoku defeated Brian Christopher and won the title. Within the next three years joined the Light Heavyweight Champion title 13 times, the hands, and was maintained overall of 11 different champions, including Christian, Jeff Hardy and X - Pac. The title was abandoned in 2001 when it WWE finally succeeded in destroying the WCW/ECW Alliance. The WWE then took the WCW Cruiserweight Champion as their own Versiondes Cruiserweight Champion title.
