'Rowdy’ Roddy Piper passes away


WWE is deeply saddened that Roderick Toombs, aka “Rowdy” Roddy Piper — WWE Hall of Famer and Intercontinental Champion — passed away Friday at the age of 61.

WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Toombs’ family, friends and fans.
“Roddy Piper was one of the most entertaining, controversial and bombastic performers ever in WWE, beloved by millions of fans around the world,” said WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon. “I extend my deepest condolences to his family.”

Dusty Rhodes passes away


WWE is deeply saddened that Virgil Runnels, aka “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes — WWE Hall of Famer, three-time NWA Champion and one of the most captivating and charismatic figures in sports entertainment history — passed away yesterday at the age of 69.
Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit. Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated father to WWE Superstars Goldust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels), a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended.

WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Runnels’ family, friends and colleagues.

The Bushwhackers announced for WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2015

The Bushwhackers marched their way into the hearts of the WWE Universe during the 1980s and ‘90s. Now, cousins Luke & Butch will knock down the doors of the WWE Hall of Fame with their patented Battering Ram, as the Kiwis join the Hall’s Class of 2015.

The Bushwhackers’ journey to immortality began 50 years ago in their homeland of New Zealand, where the two joined forces in regional companies, catching the eyes of North American promoters. Luke & Butch made their first splash in Stampede Wrestling, the Calgary-based territory ran by WWE Hall of Famer Stu Hart, before moving south into the United States.

WWE SIGNS KENTA TO NXT

STAMFORD, Conn. — WWE today announced it has signed Kenta, one of Japan’s biggest stars, to its NXT division. The announcement took place during a signing ceremony at a WWE Live Event in Osaka, Japan with WWE icon and Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan presiding.

Kenta’s intense and straightforward in-ring style has led to his success in Japan, as well as during visits to the U.S. He is expected to reach new heights of global success with WWE.

Ultimate Warrior passes away

WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior.

Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at Wrestlemania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter.

We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans.

WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans.

Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana, his two daughters, his mother, his two sisters and his two brothers.

WWE releases Drew McIntyre, Teddy Long and 8 others

It used to be a tradition that there would be a big mass release of unused or unpopular WWE talent every year almost immediately following WrestleMania. In the past couple years, however, the company has opted to simply let talent contracts expire and "release" Superstars via not renewing contracts, partly because of the sunk cost of the contract payout and in part to avoid hard feelings.

A handful of contracts appear to have been up on Thursday, because the WWE suddenly announced the release of ten individuals (so far).

 

UPDATE: JTG has also been released. Formerly a member of Cryme Tyme, JTG hasn't appeared on WWE programming since a loss on "Superstars" in September 2013.

Daniel Bryan Surgery Update

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan underwent successful surgery to repair a lingering neck injury Thursday morning, WWE.com learned. 

After being diagnosed with the nerve issue in his neck by WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann, Bryan underwent a minimally invasive microsurgical procedure known as a cervical foraminotomy to decompress the nerve root. The surgery was performed by world-renowned neurosurgeon and sports medicine expert Dr. Joseph Maroon. WWE.com was not able to get an official timetable for Daniel Bryan's return, but can confirm that the WWE World Heavyweight Champion is out of surgery and doing well, with strength already returning to his hands.

WWE: Daniel Bryan's injury will make for an unpredictable ...

WWE is in the middle of a Catch-22 with the news Daniel Bryan will undergo surgery on Thursday after picking up a neck injury.

During Raw on Monday night, it was announced WWE World Heavyweight Champion's fairytale could be coming to an abrupt end.

It continues a rollercoaster of emotions for the perennial underdog - since April 6 he's reached the top of the sports entertainment mountain, got married to Brie Bella, been on his honeymoon, endured his father's passing and now this.

With Bryan's immediate future an uncertainty, WWE will be able to look to the likes of The Shield and Sheamus as ways to keep the crowd in good spirits going forward.
